There was chaos at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday, September 21, as police engaged Gor Mahia fans in running battles ahead of their opening Kenya Premier League clash against Bidco United.

Trouble began when groups of fans, donning the club’s trademark green shirts, attempted to gain unlawful access to the stadium.

Photos and videos obtained by FMFIX HUB showed some supporters scaling a fence at the outer gate in broad daylight, before forcing their way towards the main entrance.

They were met by police officers who responded with teargas to disperse the crowd, sparking a chaotic scene as smoke engulfed parts of the stadium and fans fled for safety.

The reasons for the initial denial of entry remain unclear, though reports suggest that hundreds of supporters tried to gain access without tickets.

A spot check revealed that regular tickets for the tie cost Ksh300, while VIP tickets were priced at Ksh1,000.

The incident adds to a growing list of chaotic scenes involving Gor Mahia’s loyal fan base in recent months. In June, police used teargas to disperse rowdy supporters at the Ulinzi Sports Complex after Nairobi United’s 2-1 Mozzart Bet Cup final victory over Gor Mahia.

A month earlier, several fans sustained injuries in a stampede at Gusii Stadium during K’Ogalo’s highly anticipated clash with Shabana FC.

For many, Sunday’s game was a chance to evaluate the team’s strength ahead of the new season after Gor Mahia surrendered the 2024/2025 league title to Police FC.

However, the unfortunate scenes outside Kasarani overshadowed the build-up to the much-anticipated fixture.
