The government has released Ksh3.51 billion to benefit over 1.7 million vulnerable Kenyans under the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme for the month of May.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the disbursement targets 1,759,656 beneficiaries across the country, offering much-needed financial support to older persons, orphans, vulnerable children, and individuals living with severe disabilities.
“The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, has released Ksh3,519,312,000 for payment to 1,759,656 beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program,” read part of the official statement issued by Principal Secretary Joseph Motari.
The payment process began on Friday, June 6, with each beneficiary set to receive Ksh2,000 to cover their May stipend. PS Motari reiterated the government’s continued dedication to cushioning the most at-risk citizens through social protection initiatives.
He described Inua Jamii as a cornerstone of Kenya’s broader poverty alleviation and welfare strategy.
“It aims to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society’s most vulnerable members, including older persons aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, and persons living with severe disability,” the statement noted.
Beneficiaries can access their funds by logging into the E-citizen platform or dialling *222# on their mobile phones. Once confirmed, the amount can be withdrawn through M-PESA agents or transferred directly to their M-PESA wallets for ease of use.
The Ministry has encouraged beneficiaries to report any issues or delays at their nearest social protection office for quick assistance.
This latest disbursement follows a similar allocation of Ksh3.5 billion in April 2025, underscoring the government’s consistency in supporting disadvantaged communities.
Since its inception, the Inua Jamii Programme has played a crucial role in reducing the economic burden on vulnerable households, ensuring that Kenya’s most disadvantaged groups receive reliable and timely financial support.
The government’s continued investment in this social protection initiative reflects its commitment to fostering an inclusive and dignified society for all citizens.
