Police in Bungoma have arrested a nurse working at a private medical facility over allegations of raping a Form Three student who had been admitted for malaria treatment and wound dressing.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Martin Wekesa, was reportedly caught in the act by a colleague conducting routine ward rounds on Friday night.
Sources indicate that Wekesa has since acknowledged the incident to the facility’s management.

The victim’s family, however, accused the hospital of attempting to conceal the crime, alleging that the minor was forced to bathe shortly after the assault in an effort to tamper with evidence.
“Mtoto alituambia huyo daktari alimvuruta na akamvua hizo nguo… lakini the following morning walimwambia mtoto wetu aingie bafu aoge. They are trying to conceal the evidence,” said Peninah Barasa, the victim’s mother.
Bungoma South Police Commander William Letting confirmed the incident and warned against the rising cases of sexual assault in the area, vowing that perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
“Police officers walipopata hio report mara moja wakaenda kwa hiyo hospitali na wakadhibitisha kisa hicho na pia wakamshika huyo mshukiwa ambaye tuko naye hapa korokoroni. Tumefungulia mashtaka na anangoja kupelekwa kortini,” Letting stated.
The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment as investigations continue.
