City Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu Shot Dead in Karen — Police Trace Final Moments

Prominent city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday evening in Karen by suspected motorbike-riding assailants, sparking a manhunt by detectives.

The incident occurred along the Galleria–Brookhouse stretch of Magadi Road, where Mbobu was reportedly driving alone in his SUV.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen smashed the driver’s side window before firing multiple shots, hitting him at least three times in the chin. The attackers then sped off, leaving the lawyer fatally wounded.

The attack caused panic and traffic disruption as motorists and residents gathered at the scene before police arrived to secure the area.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since launched investigations, focusing on tracing Mbobu’s final movements to establish a possible motive and track down the killers.

Mbobu was a respected figure in Kenya’s legal and academic circles.

He previously served as the Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal and was also a lecturer in law, dispute resolution, and governance.

He was the founder of Kyalo & Associates Advocates and also chaired Quest Holdings Ltd and Core Capital Group Ltd.

His credentials included an LL.M. from Georgetown University in the United States, a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya (CPS-K) designation, and he was a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

The motive of the attack remains unclear. However, the DCI says it is pursuing several leads as it pieces together the final hours of Mbobu’s life.
