Police have placed a Ksh1 million bounty on Collins Jumaisi, a suspected serial killer who escaped from custody at Gigiri Police Station on August 20, 2024.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 30, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Jumaisi is still at large and appealed to the public for help in tracking him down.

The renewed manhunt follows public concern after a Citizen TV documentary questioned the progress of investigations into his escape.

Jumaisi, who had been arrested in July 2024 over a string of killings linked to bodies discovered at a dumpsite in Kware, Mukuru, was among 13 suspects who fled the station, allegedly by simply walking out through the main door.

Five police officers from Gigiri were later arrested on suspicion of aiding the escape but were released on cash bail as investigations continued.

While in custody, Jumaisi is reported to have confessed to 42 murders, including that of his own wife, committed between 2022 and 2024.

Detectives recovered several items from his house, including multiple SIM cards, smartphones, female personal effects, sacks, ropes, and a machete, which police believe were linked to the crimes.

The DCI has urged Kenyans with credible information on his whereabouts to use the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203, WhatsApp number 0709 570 000, or report to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers 999, 911, and 112.

This is the second time authorities have offered a reward for his capture, but unlike last year’s campaign, the police have now disclosed the figure — Ksh1 million — in hopes of finally securing his arrest.
