Police in Narok County have arrested one suspect in connection with the viral video showing a woman being brutally flogged by four men, even as the search for the other perpetrators continues.
The disturbing video, which circulated widely on social media earlier this week, captured the woman being dragged on the ground and whipped repeatedly as she wailed in pain.
Outrage followed nationwide, with leaders, rights groups, and the public demanding swift justice.

In a statement on Friday, September 26, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the incident took place in Mbene, Ngarite area of Narok Central Sub-County.
Police said the woman was rescued after the assault and taken to hospital for treatment.
“An investigation was commenced and a manhunt for the perpetrators was mounted, leading to a successful arrest of one suspect, who has been placed in custody pending arraignment in court,” read part of the NPS statement.
According to unconfirmed reports, the four men are believed to be the woman’s brothers. Speculation suggests the attack may have been sparked by a domestic dispute linked to a marriage proposal the woman allegedly declined. However, police have yet to confirm the motive.
Authorities have described the case as a serious crime involving gender-based violence, assault, and kidnapping, stressing that all suspects will face the full force of the law once apprehended.
“We are still in hot pursuit of the remaining perpetrators with the objective of apprehending them to face justice.
We commend the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrest,” police added.
Rights groups, including the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), have condemned the incident, urging swift prosecution of the suspects while calling on communities to reject all forms of gender-based violence.
