Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred debate after claiming that President William Ruto is deliberately sowing division in the Mount Kenya region as part of his strategy for the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV, Gachagua accused the Head of State of deploying close allies, including Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, to create confusion in the region.
According to him, the plan is to weaken Mount Kenya’s political unity so that those tasked with causing the division eventually circle back to the President in exchange for appointments.

Gachagua cited the recent Mbeere North by-election as an example, alleging that Kuria was used to field a candidate intended to split votes in favour of the United Democratic Party.
He urged Mount Kenya residents to observe the unfolding events critically and make informed choices as the 2027 elections draw nearer.
Pressed during the interview on why he constantly mentions President Ruto in his statements instead of focusing on broader national issues, the former DP lost his cool, insisting that his criticism is deliberate.
He argued that Ruto’s administration is forcing Kenyans into unpopular policies such as the Housing Levy, which he described as unfair.
“There is no way I am going to tone down on attacking President Ruto and his entire Kenya Kwanza administration,” Gachagua declared. “People condemn Satan every day; they never stop just because they condemned him the day before.”
He further stated that his attacks on the President have only just begun, warning that more will follow as the country heads toward the 2027 polls.
Gachagua maintained that his ultimate goal is to see Kenyans happy — something he believes will only happen if Ruto is voted out of office.
