Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin has broken his silence following former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s dramatic claims of an alleged assassination plot.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Amin urged Gachagua to formally report any threats to his life or property at a police station, cautioning against using the media as a platform for unverified allegations.

“If the former Deputy President has an issue concerning any matter regarding threats over his life and property, he should have filed a report at the police station,” Amin stated.

The DCI boss emphasized that security matters are too serious to be reduced to theatrics, urging political leaders to act responsibly.

“Serious security issues should not be turned into public theatrics. Let him report officially, and we will treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves,” he added.

Amin Backs National Police Service Statement

Mohamed Amin echoed sentiments previously issued by the National Police Service (NPS), reaffirming the agency’s commitment to protecting all individuals—regardless of their political affiliations.

Earlier, NPS had advised Gachagua to coordinate with police regarding his security needs and movements. The service stated that advance notice would ensure proper planning and safety at public events.

“The National Police Service remains committed to ensuring the safety of all Kenyans without bias,” said Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga in a statement on behalf of Inspector General Douglas Kanja.

Gachagua’s Explosive Allegations

The former Deputy President recently penned a strongly-worded letter to the Inspector General, accusing the state of orchestrating a scheme to expose him to harm.

“You withdrew my security in a clear, thought-out scheme… to make me vulnerable to organized criminal gangs in cohort with the Police and other Security Agencies,” Gachagua alleged in the letter.

He issued six demands, including the arrest and prosecution of individuals behind alleged violent disruptions at his events, reinstatement of full security protection, and an end to the reported surveillance of his family by intelligence agencies.

Political Undercurrents

The back-and-forth comes amid growing political tensions within the Kenya Kwanza administration and increasing public scrutiny of state security operations. Gachagua’s claims have sparked debate nationwide, with critics questioning the motive behind the allegations and supporters demanding swift investigations.

While the DCI and NPS have publicly responded, it remains unclear whether Gachagua intends to file an official report, as urged by law enforcement authorities.
