Govt Announces Mass Recruitment of Prison Constables; Check Recruitment Centres & Key Dates.

The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS), under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, has officially announced the nationwide recruitment of male and female Prison Constables across all 47 counties.

In a public notice issued on April 7, KPS revealed that the recruitment exercise will take place on April 30, 2025, and emphasized that the process will be free of charge.

“Any person presenting themselves for recruitment with falsified or fake academic/professional certificates, identity cards, or engaging in any acts that amount to corruption shall be disqualified and prosecuted,” the notice warned.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the recruitment, interested candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Possess a valid National Identification Card.
• Have no criminal record.
• Hold a minimum KCSE grade of D+ and above.
• Be between the ages of 18 and 28 years.
• Male candidates must be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall, while female candidates must be at least 5 feet 2 inches tall.
• Must be physically and mentally fit.
• Have good posture and clear vision.
• Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

Successful candidates will undergo paramilitary training lasting not less than nine months.

On the day of recruitment, all applicants must bring the following original documents:

• National ID card
• Birth certificate
• KRA PIN certificate
• KCSE certificate and any other academic/professional testimonials

KPS has cautioned that recruitment will only take place at the officially listed centers and on the specified date. Members of the public are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or fraudulent individuals posing as recruiters.
