A family in Nairobi’s Mihang’o estate in Kayole is demanding swift justice following the alleged killing of their daughter by a General Service Unit (GSU) officer.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Ann Muthoni Ngunjiri, was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, a serving officer attached to the General Service Unit, on Sunday evening.

According to the family, the suspect pursued Ann to her house in Mihang’o within Kayole, where he allegedly assaulted her before inflicting fatal injuries and fleeing the scene.

A post-mortem examination has since revealed that Ann died from severe head injuries caused by a combination of blunt force trauma and a sharp object.

Speaking in anguish, the victim’s mother, Wanjiku, said no punishment could ever compensate for the loss of her daughter. She described Ann as a calm and gentle young woman whose life was cut short in a brutal manner.

Ann’s body was discovered on Monday, February 2, hidden under a bed and lying in a pool of blood.

Neighbours reported that the suspect allegedly locked the house after the attack, left the keys with a security guard, and disappeared under the cover of darkness, raising concerns over how the crime went unnoticed at the time it occurred.

Family members revealed that Ann had been in an on-and-off relationship with the suspect, adding that the disagreement on Sunday allegedly ended in violence.

They insist that despite the suspect being known, no arrest had been made by the time they spoke, prompting frustration and fear that justice may be delayed.

However, police say investigations are at an advanced stage.

Kayole Police Commander Joseph Owuoth confirmed that the suspect, who works under the Kenya Police Service and is stationed in Embakasi, has been identified and that officers are actively pursuing him.

“The suspect has since been identified and we are in hot pursuit. We shall arrest him soon,” Owuoth said.

As investigations continue, the family is making arrangements to transport Ann’s body to Nyahururu ahead of her burial at their rural home in Subukia, Nakuru County.

They say they remain hopeful that justice will eventually be served for their slain daughter.
