Police have sensationally claimed that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi orchestrated his own kidnapping, in what investigators have described as a meticulously staged abduction aimed at deceiving the public and authorities.

In a detailed briefing on Wednesday, May 28, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, flanked by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Amin Mohammed and other senior officers, revealed that three suspects — including the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairperson for Juja — have been arrested in connection with the bizarre incident.

“It is quite, quite inconceivable for an honourable Member of Parliament to go to that extent of stage-managing his own abduction, creating a lot of tension and fear in the country,” said DCI boss Amin Mohammed.

Investigations revealed that Koimburi was never kidnapped, as previously reported. Instead, authorities now allege that the MP, together with close associates, plotted the scheme and carried it out on May 25, after attending a church service.

“We were able to account for all his movements from the time he attended the church up to where he slept at night. We have even identified the hotel and the room number where he slept,” Amin added.

    Inside the Staged Kidnapping

According to statements from the suspects, the plan began to unravel when inconsistencies emerged in the accounts given by the MP’s associates.

The Juja CDF Chair initially told police that Koimburi was abducted by two men in a silver Subaru Forester shortly after a church service. He claimed to have learned of the MP’s recovery at a coffee farm via a call from the MP’s family.

However, another suspect, identified as a close associate of Koimburi, told detectives that the CDF Chair had earlier requested to use his Subaru Forester to “transport additional security personnel” for the MP during the church event.

The associate further revealed that he later received instructions to visit the CDF Chair’s home, where he met the third suspect and others. They allegedly conducted a reconnaissance mission to the church using a Honda CR-V before executing the fake kidnapping.

On arriving at the church, two men reportedly forced Koimburi into the Subaru Forester. The group then drove to Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kabogo Road, where the MP switched vehicles, entering a waiting Honda CR-V.

The same associate later told police that he was warned by the two abductors not to speak to authorities.

MP Slept in Hotel After Orchestrated ‘Abduction’

The third suspect admitted to driving the MP to a hotel on the night of May 25, where Koimburi had refreshments and spent the night alongside the two alleged kidnappers.

“He admitted that on May 26, while using the CDF Chair’s Honda CR-V, he picked up the MP from the hotel and took him to the scene where he claimed he had been dumped,” IG Kanja stated.

Before stepping out to be “discovered,” the suspect helped the MP tear his clothes to fake signs of torture — a key detail that had been cited in earlier reports of the incident.

Both the Subaru Forester and the Honda CR-V used in the alleged scheme have been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

Police say further action will follow based on the evidence collected.
