President William Ruto on Wednesday evening, January 7, 2026, held a consultative meeting with key stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, led by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the official release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

The high-level briefing, which is standard procedure before the public announcement of national examination results, signals that the long-awaited KCSE 2025 results are likely to be released on Thursday, January 8.

Traditionally, the President must be formally briefed by the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) before the results are made public, a process aimed at ensuring oversight and preparedness ahead of nationwide dissemination.

The meeting comes as President Ruto prepares for a busy public schedule on Thursday, which includes presiding over activities linked to the second phase of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.

The initiative’s business start-up capital disbursement is set to begin on January 8 across 27 counties.

KNEC Activates Provisional Results Checker

The consultative meeting was held a day after KNEC activated its official online results-checking portal in preparation for the release of the 2025 KCSE results.

A review of the platform shows that the interface is live, displaying a notice indicating that provisional results will only be accessible after the official announcement.

“The 2025 KCSE Examination Provisional Results will be available after official release,” reads the notice.

According to KNEC, once the results are formally released, candidates will be able to instantly access their provisional results by entering their KCSE index number and selecting the 2025 examination year on the official results portal. The system allows candidates to view, download, and print their result slips, although temporary delays may occur due to high traffic immediately after the release.

The early activation of the portal signals the final stages of preparation by the examination body as anticipation builds nationwide.

Overview of the 2025 KCSE Examinations

The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 21 and November 21, 2025, with oral and practical assessments administered prior to the written theory papers.

A total of 996,078 candidates were registered for the 2025 KCSE examinations.

The tests formed part of a broader national assessment cycle involving more than 3.4 million learners across KCSE, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

During the examination period, the Ministry of Education recorded 418 cases of malpractice, marking a decline from the 614 cases reported in 2024.

Earlier, CS Ogamba reaffirmed that the KCSE 2025 results would be released in January 2026, dismissing claims circulating on social media that the results had already been released or that a top-performing school had been identified as false and misleading.

He further revealed that the marking exercise was completed on December 13, 2025, involving 32,558 examiners deployed across 40 marking centres nationwide.

KCSE results are reported using a 12-point grading scale, with subject grades converted into numerical points to compute a candidate’s overall mean grade.

The final mean grade is calculated from the best seven subjects and determines eligibility for various post-secondary education pathways.

The 2025 KCSE examinations mark one of the final cycles under the 8-4-4 education system as Kenya continues its transition to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, with Grade 9 learners expected to transition to senior school from January 2026.
