A funeral convoy traveling from Nairobi endured a frightening and deeply unsettling journey after the hearse transporting the deceased repeatedly stalled under unusual circumstances, leaving mourners shaken and confused.
In an undated video shared by Jaramogi Allan Ofula, the incident reportedly occurred multiple times as the convoy made its way toward its destination.
What should have been a smooth procession descended into hours of spiritual anxiety, frustration, and cultural speculation.

Hearse Stalls Repeatedly Midway to Burial Site
According to mourners who began their journey at 4 a.m., the trip was expected to be timely and uneventful. Instead, by 3 p.m., the convoy had barely passed Awasi, with the bus carrying the casket repeatedly stalling for reasons that were not immediately clear.
Eyewitnesses claim that at one point, the coffin was removed from the vehicle and placed on the grass to “catch some sun and fresh air”—a cultural attempt believed to ease any unseen resistance from the departed.
However, the gesture did little to calm the situation. When the body was returned to the bus, the mechanical problems persisted.
Prayers, Rituals, and Cultural Beliefs Come Into Play
As panic and frustration grew, church elders and community “wise men” stepped forward to pray, cleanse the atmosphere, and speak over the casket, hoping to ease what many described as spiritual unrest.
Some mourners went as far as repositioning the coffin—turning the head in different directions—in a playful attempt to “trick” the spirit into believing the convoy was returning to Nairobi. None of the efforts yielded results.
When a Body ‘Rejects’ Home
In several communities, unexplained disruptions during funeral travel are often linked to unresolved family or land disputes affecting the deceased.
Traditionally, when a body is believed to be “rejecting home,” passengers are required to alight from the vehicle and board again one by one as the driver attempts to restart the engine.
The individual whose presence causes the hearse to stall is then identified as the bearer of conflict or bad blood—and may be barred from proceeding to the burial.
With tensions rising and exhaustion setting in after hours of delay, mourners considered performing this ritual to identify the possible source of the interference.
A Journey Marked by Fear, Fatigue, and Confusion
By the time the convoy reached Awasi, the atmosphere was heavy with spiritual anxiety and cultural tension. Many passengers expressed fear, confusion, and fatigue, unable to comprehend why the journey had become so dramatically disrupted.
The eerie chain of events has since sparked widespread conversation online, with many connecting it to cultural beliefs surrounding unsettled disputes, spiritual resistance, or unfulfilled wishes of the deceased.
No official mechanical explanation has yet been provided for the repeated stalling of the vehicle.
