Police have launched investigations into a string of brutal killings reported in different parts of the country, including the discovery of a woman’s body floating in River Tana and multiple murders in Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, and Migori counties.
In Tana River County, detectives are probing the mysterious death of an unidentified woman whose body was found floating along the Golbanti section of the River Tana.
The body, which had a dog chain fastened with a padlock around her left leg, was spotted drifting near the riverbank by locals who alerted the authorities.

Officers retrieved the body and transferred it to a local mortuary for identification and autopsy. According to police, preliminary findings suggest the woman may have been killed elsewhere before being dumped in the river.
“The body had visible injuries, suggesting that the victim may have been held captive, tortured, and later murdered before being disposed of in the river,” police said in a Thursday report. The woman had no identification documents, and the motive of the killing remains unclear.
Elsewhere, in Uasin Gishu County, detectives are investigating the murder of a 43-year-old man, identified as Moris Mwiti Muthee, whose body was discovered inside his house in the Kapsoya area on the morning of November 5, 2025.
A neighbour, who routinely woke him up for work, found him lying unresponsive in a pool of blood.
When police arrived, they found that the deceased had a deep cut on the head and that his left ear had been severed.
Investigators suspect he was attacked and killed inside the house, as there were no signs of forced entry or theft.
“The motive remains unknown at this stage,” police stated, adding that the body had been moved to the mortuary pending postmortem results.
In Ahero, Kisumu County, police discovered the body of 18-year-old Felix Odongo, which had been concealed beneath a concrete culvert.
Authorities suspect foul play but have yet to determine the motive behind the killing. His body was transferred to the mortuary for further examination.
Meanwhile, in Rongo, Migori County, a 30-year-old boda boda rider, Steve Okoth, was fatally stabbed during a confrontation between two rival groups over pending elections within the local boda boda association.
Police said Okoth died on the spot after sustaining stab wounds during Tuesday evening’s altercation. Five other riders were injured in the chaos, which erupted as the groups clashed over the conduct of the polls.
A prime suspect has since been arrested, and police have launched a manhunt for other suspects believed to have taken part in the deadly confrontation. The elections were later postponed due to security concerns.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for reforms in the boda boda sector, which has faced scrutiny following reports linking some members to criminal activities.
Security agencies have vowed to intensify operations targeting violent and unregistered riders to curb rising insecurity.
As investigations continue, police have urged members of the public to cooperate and share any information that could help identify the perpetrators behind the recent wave of killings.
