At least 10 people are feared dead following a tragic road accident that occurred on Thursday night at Arimi, a notorious blackspot along the Njoro-Elburgon Road in Nakuru County.
The accident involved a 14-seater Nissan matatu and a lorry, which collided head-on, leading to a devastating crash that left several passengers dead and others injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry rammed into the matatu with great force, causing extensive damage to the public service vehicle. The scene quickly drew a crowd of onlookers and Good Samaritans who tried to assist survivors before emergency services arrived.

Police officers from the region responded swiftly to the incident, securing the area and coordinating the transport of the injured to nearby hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were taken to a local mortuary.
Authorities have not yet released the official number of casualties, as investigations are ongoing. However, early reports suggest that the death toll may rise.
“This area has long been marked as a high-risk zone for accidents. We continue to urge motorists to observe speed limits and be extra cautious, especially during night travel,” said a traffic police officer at the scene.
The Arimi area has a history of fatal accidents, raising renewed concerns about road safety along the Njoro-Elburgon stretch, especially for public transport users.
Officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are expected to visit the site as investigations continue into the exact cause of the accident.
