The National Police Service has officially resumed the nationwide police recruitment exercise.
This comes a day after the Employment and Labour Relations Court clarified that the recruitment mandate rests with the Inspector General of Police, not the National Police Service Commission.
The ruling paved the way for the NPS to proceed, ending days of uncertainty and speculation.

The announcement comes shortly after the Employment and Labour Relations Court on Thursday nullified the previously advertised recruitment drive by NPSC, citing constitutional concerns.
The court ruled that recruitment, deployment, and human resource functions for police officers fall under the authority of the Inspector General as provided by the Constitution.
The earlier NPSC-led recruitment, which planned to recruit 10,000 new police officers, had been suspended pending the court’s decision following a petition filed by former MP Harun Mwau.
Now, with the constitutional clarity reaffirmed, the NPS has moved swiftly to restart the recruitment under the correct mandate.
Candidates have been urged to:
- Use official government websites only
- Report early at designated centres
- Avoid engaging in bribery or fraud during the recruitment exercise
The NPS has previously warned that any individual caught engaging in corruption or illegal recruitment practices will be prosecuted.
