A disturbing crime wave is gripping Nairobi’s affluent neighbourhoods, with a surge of meticulously orchestrated robberies targeting high-end estates.

Unlike before, when criminals relied on inconspicuous cars, the gangs are now deploying luxury SUVs such as Toyota Prados, enabling them to blend seamlessly into the upscale estates they exploit.

Citizen TV investigations revisited victims across General Mathenge Drive, Syokimau, Shanzu Road, and Embakasi, where a series of chillingly synchronised robberies have left residents on high alert.

At Sunpark Estate in Syokimau, four suspects — two men and two women dressed in buibui — were captured on CCTV driving a Toyota Prado, registration number KDS 720F.

Claiming they were headed to the swimming pool, they bypassed security registration before breaking into an apartment and making away with valuables and cash.

The same faces have since been linked to other complexes hit by similar raids.

In Embakasi, surveillance footage shows a businessman unknowingly being trailed from a local bank by suspects driving a Nissan X-Trail.

The vehicle followed him to his workplace, where minutes later, his car was found with a shattered window.

Although the suspects attempted to steal his withdrawn cash, the money had already been secured elsewhere.

Records from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate the Nissan X-Trail is registered under a private company in Nairobi, with investigations into its ownership currently underway.

Between September 26 and 29, the same Toyota Prado was sighted in multiple neighbourhoods, including General Mathenge, Roopra Parklands, Shanzu Road, and Sunpark.

CCTV footage links the vehicle to each location, deepening suspicions of a broader criminal syndicate.

Residents say the suspects often pose as house hunters, using the guise to identify vulnerable homes before breaking in.

Authorities have expressed concern that the shift to high-end vehicles, deceptive disguises, and coordinated surveillance reflects a dangerous evolution in Nairobi’s urban crime scene.

Security experts and residents alike are now calling for swift action and increased vigilance to counter the syndicates before they escalate their operations further.
