Quickmart Supermarket has refuted claims that several people were killed at its OTC branch in Nairobi during the June 25 protests.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the retailer confirmed that while two of its outlets—one at OTC and another in Ruiru—were broken into during the nationwide demonstrations, no deaths or injuries occurred.
“Contrary to misleading information circulating on digital platforms, we wish to assure the public that no staff, customers, or any other individuals were injured or deceased at the two outlets,” read the statement in part.

The company added that the safety of its staff, customers, and surrounding communities remains its top priority.
The clarification comes after online reports alleged that police were collecting bodies from the OTC outlet, following viral images of officers stationed heavily around the downtown branch.
Activist Hanifa Adan was among those who raised concerns online, sharing messages she received from demonstrators claiming that bodies were being retrieved from the premises and that police had barred access to the scene.
One protester claimed that up to 30 bodies were involved, though these accounts remain unverified.
Quickmart has since urged its customers from the affected locations to seek services from nearby branches as they work to restore operations.
The incident occurred as protests rocked major towns across Kenya, marking the first anniversary of the 2024 anti-finance bill demonstrations.
Amnesty International Kenya has confirmed at least 16 fatalities countrywide from the latest protests, which turned violent in several areas.
Quickmart has pledged to resume normal operations soon and called for calm and support from its customers and the public.
