Ruiru police have arrested a matatu driver following the tragic death of a passenger who was allegedly pushed out of a moving vehicle over a Ksh 30 fare deficit.
The victim, Gilbert Thuku Kimani, had boarded a Super Metro matatu at Kahawa Wendani en route to Thika when an altercation arose between him and the conductor. Reports indicate that Gilbert, who was unable to pay the full Ksh 80 fare, offered Ksh 50, leading to a heated exchange.
Eyewitnesses claim that the conductor, with the assistance of the driver, forcefully ejected him from the moving vehicle along Thika Road at Kahawa Sukari. The victim reportedly fell onto the tarmac and was run over by the matatu’s rear tyre, sustaining fatal injuries. Shockingly, the matatu crew allegedly fled the scene without stopping to assist him.
