The trailer driver complained of pain following the accident. The bodies of the deceased officers were taken to the mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.

Between January and March 2025, Kenya recorded 1,139 road accident fatalities, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). This marked a slight decrease from 1,166 deaths recorded during the same period in 2024.

Last year, a police vehicle veered off its lane and collided with an oncoming 14-seater matatu along the Kericho-Sotik Highway. While no fatalities occurred, the police officer sustained minor injuries, and witnesses alleged the officer might have been driving under the influence.

The NTSA reports that pedestrians were the most affected group, accounting for 420 fatalities, followed by motorcyclists (301), passengers (189), pillion passengers (130), drivers (83), and pedal cyclists (16).

In response, the NTSA and police launched a road safety awareness campaign focusing on enforcing traffic laws, educating road users, and cracking down on unroadworthy vehicles and reckless driving behaviors.
