Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Maina is under public scrutiny following a heated online confrontation with Kameme FM presenter Muthoni, popularly known as Baby Top, that quickly went viral and stirred widespread debate across social media platforms.
The confrontation began when Maina, who was elected in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after defeating media personality Waithira Muithirania, took to social media to make damning personal allegations against the radio host.
“Your track record is sleeping with a former Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, who built you a house. Now you’ve domesticated a musician,” Maina claimed in her post.

She concluded the message with a harsh rebuke: “Get a life and focus on your work. You and your mother are children of a snake.”
The statement triggered outrage online, with many Kenyans condemning the tone and content of the remarks, which they considered deeply personal and unbecoming of an elected leader.
Muthoni did not remain silent. In a fiery response posted online, she took a swipe back at the Woman Rep:
“Fair enough! But we don’t throw people into dams. Remember how you almost destroyed someone at Roasters?” she wrote.
“Let me go to mass and repent, but I’ll be back for you at 9:00,” she added, before continuing:
“You will never cross that red line, not even when it comes to the parents of your worst enemy. And for those telling me to protect my brand, I have no brand when someone crosses that red line. Evil must be confronted.”
Public Reactions Mixed
The public exchange drew widespread reactions, with social media users divided over who was in the wrong. While some laughed off the drama, others expressed concern over the apparent breakdown of civility in public discourse.
“Let me not say anything,” wrote one user, Patricia Ngure. “My mom once told me that if you see two women fighting, it’s usually over a man. Since I’m not part of the fight, I’ll stay quiet.”
Another user, Arsene Ole Asia, reignited the flame with a personal anecdote: “Do you remember when we were in high school? We shared a dormitory, and she used to wet the bed. She refused to hang her mattress outside, and the dormitory smelled like something had died.”
Despite the spectacle, civic voices and commentators have called on both Maina and Muthoni to tone down the rhetoric and remember their responsibility as public figures and influencers.
Who is Betty Maina?
Betty Maina currently serves as the Women Representative for Murang’a County. Her political journey began after years of grassroots involvement, particularly through initiatives that supported needy students and mobilized local resources for education and community programs.
She entered the political limelight during her tenure as an office administrator to then-Women Rep Sabina Chege, a role she held from 2013 to 2019. In 2019, she was appointed to the Board of the Athi River Development Agency, a position she held until her resignation to pursue elected office in 2022.
Maina is also engaged to Eric Wamumbi, the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency. Their traditional engagement ceremony in Murang’a drew attendance from high-ranking political figures across the Mt. Kenya region.
As public criticism mounts, observers say this latest confrontation could dent Maina’s public image, especially at a time when the electorate is increasingly demanding professionalism and restraint from its leaders.
