Three Officers, Civilian Injured as Armed Gang Raids Musanda Police Station, Steals G3 Rifles

Tension gripped Musanda area in Mumias West, Kakamega County, after armed assailants attacked Musanda Police Station on Friday night, leaving three police officers and a civilian injured before escaping with two G3 rifles loaded with ammunition.

According to a report recorded at around 9pm by Police Constable Brian Kipngetich, six individuals riding on two motorcycles arrived at the patrol base claiming that their motorcycle had been stolen at Sigomere.

Moments after making the report, a commotion was heard at the station, followed by a gunshot. Kipngetich stated that one of the attackers was heard saying, “there is another one,” before he was shot on the left side of the head.

He managed to retreat back to his house despite sustaining injuries.

The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and other officers responded to the scene at Mukhuwa Location, where they found Corporal Richard Utolo lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a visible wound on the chin.

He was rushed to hospital and remains admitted in serious condition.

Kipngetich sustained a slight head injury, while Police Constable Finace Abura suffered a wound to the left ear.

Abura’s wife, Mary Omondi, who was present during the incident, sustained injuries to the head and right hand.

Police confirmed that two G3 rifles, each loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition, were stolen during the attack.

The injured officers were taken to Bungoma West Hospital, where they were admitted and are currently receiving treatment.

The scene was later visited by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Mumias West.

Investigators observed blood stains inside the officers’ houses and recovered two crowbars believed to have been used to break into a steel box.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers, with a search for the stolen rifles and any spent cartridges ongoing. Investigations into the daring raid continue.
