Police in Nairobi are investigating the suspected murder of a 21-year-old woman, Feruz Hussein, who was allegedly suffocated by her boyfriend following a domestic dispute in the Githurai-Sunton area.

The suspect, identified as Nelson Ambia, is accused of using a pillow to suffocate Hussein before allegedly recording the incident and sending the video to her family.

The disturbing allegations were brought to public attention by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who has appealed to Kenyans to help trace the suspect and provide information that could lead to his arrest.

According to Sonko, Ambia is also accused of threatening Hussein’s younger siblings, Shadia, 19, and Malik, 15.

The matter was reported at Sunton Police Station in Kasarani Sub-County on September 30, 2026, under Occurrence Book (OB) number 37.

Documents seen by Citizen Digital, including a police report acknowledgement and a letter addressed to a mortuary superintendent, indicate that Hussein’s death was reported to the station as a suspected murder.

The mortuary admission letter identifies Hussein as the deceased and indicates that her body was recovered from a house in the Githurai-Sunton area. The document further identifies the matter as a police case, with a postmortem examination and burial arrangements pending.

Meanwhile, Sonko has announced a KSh 50,000 reward for anyone who provides credible information leading to Ambia’s arrest.

In a social media post, the former governor claimed that the suspect had recently been spotted in Kakamega County and appealed to members of the public to assist authorities in tracing him.

“I am offering KSh 50,000 to anyone whose credible information leads to his arrest,” Sonko stated.

He urged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station and cautioned members of the public against attempting to confront him.

The reported sighting in Kakamega could provide investigators with a lead as they work to establish the suspect’s whereabouts. However, the claim has not been independently verified.

The case has renewed concerns about violence against women and the importance of addressing domestic disputes and threats before they escalate into serious harm.

As investigations continue, police are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding Hussein’s death and pursue the suspect in accordance with the law.

Ambia remains an alleged suspect, and the accusations against him have not been proven in court. Anyone with credible information that could assist the investigation is urged to report it to the relevant authorities.
