A family in Nairobi is demanding answers following the mysterious death of their daughter and sister, Annah Mbungu, whose body was reportedly found by the roadside shortly after she hailed a taxi to travel home from work.

The tragic incident has left relatives devastated and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her death, including the route taken by the taxi, the response by authorities, and the events leading to what has been described as a hit-and-run incident.

Speaking about the loss, Annah’s brother, Timothy Mbungu, expressed deep sorrow and frustration as he called for justice.

According to Timothy, Annah requested a taxi at around 9:20 p.m. on the night she disappeared. He claimed that police later informed the family that her body had been recovered at approximately 9:36 p.m., far from her intended destination.

“The police later said they booked the body at the City Mortuary at 10:40 a.m. I am mourning you, my little sister; your big brother was not there to protect you. I never knew you had such big enemies. I saw that you underwent a lot of pain. Your only mistake was requesting a trusted service provider,” he lamented.

Timothy questioned how his sister failed to reach her destination after boarding the taxi and criticized what he described as a lack of urgency from both the transport service and authorities.

“You requested a cab, but you never got to your desired destination. To the company, you are just data; they left you on the roadside lifeless and went ahead with their business as usual. Tomorrow, I will ask questions for the safety of my other family members. Are we safe?” he posed.

The grieving brother also accused relevant government agencies of moving too slowly in investigating the matter.

“To some, she is just breaking news. To others, a dead body that needs to be disposed of as quickly as possible. But to me, she was a sister,” he said.

Among the questions Timothy wants answered are why the taxi allegedly took a different route from the expected one, how Annah ended up in the middle of the road where she was reportedly struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, and why there were no eyewitness accounts, including from the taxi driver.

He further questioned the police response, alleging that investigators failed to gather information at the scene that could have helped unravel the circumstances of her death.

“It was reported that by the next day, the taxi involved was back on the road operating normally. It was only after pressure from well-wishers that police summoned the driver to Embakasi Police Station and impounded the vehicle. There are so many questions without answers,” Timothy said.

As investigations continue, family members, friends, and supporters have been gathering to prepare for Annah’s burial.

Timothy invited well-wishers to join the family during the final funeral preparations ahead of her send-off scheduled for Saturday.

The family is now appealing for a thorough and transparent investigation to establish what happened during Annah’s final moments and to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
