A cloud of grief has engulfed Moi Girls High School Vokoli and the wider Vihiga community following the sudden death of a Form Four student who collapsed while at school.
The student, identified as Mitchel, reportedly collapsed in the school’s washroom on the evening of Tuesday, June 16.
She was rushed to Sabatia Hospital for emergency treatment but sadly passed away while receiving medical care.

According to family members, Mitchel was an orphan who lived under the care of relatives.
Her guardian said he received a call from the school informing him that the student had been taken to hospital and was requested to provide details of her Social Health Authority (SHA) cover to facilitate treatment.
The guardian, however, expressed concern over the lack of information regarding the circumstances surrounding the student’s collapse.
He claimed that attempts to reach school officials, including her class teacher and the school matron, were unsuccessful.
Later that night, he received the devastating news that Mitchel had succumbed while undergoing treatment.
News of her death left students and teachers at the school in shock, with emotional scenes reported during a school assembly as learners mourned the loss of their colleague.
By the time of publication, the school had not issued an official statement explaining the circumstances that led to the student’s collapse and death.
Her body was moved to Mabele Hospital Mortuary as the family awaited a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread reactions from Kenyans, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s sudden death.
Others have urged parents and guardians to ensure schools are fully informed about any pre-existing medical conditions affecting learners.
