Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya is once again turning heads—this time in the digital space.

The youthful legislator has announced plans to hire 100 bloggers to help revamp his presence on X (formerly Twitter), a platform he candidly admits has proven challenging for him to conquer.

In a bold move characteristic of his unfiltered and humorous persona, Salasya took to his X account to declare his intentions publicly—complete with a personal phone number for applicants.

“Looking for 100 bloggers to be paid directly by me. Just text me your number and I will definitely call back, so as to help me push my agenda on X. Am doing badly on X,” he posted.

The announcement quickly went viral, sparking a storm of reactions. While some users praised the initiative as a smart way to modernize political messaging and engage the digital generation, others criticized the plan as artificial and questioned the authenticity of such online influence.

“This is not how you win Twitter, mheshimiwa,” one user commented, while another quipped, “Bro wants to hire his way to virality.”

Despite the criticism, Salasya’s online strategy appears to be just one pillar in a larger political masterplan. The first-term MP has been traversing the country in recent weeks, drumming up support for a presidential bid in the 2027 general elections.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank people of Eastleigh Nairobi for turning up in large numbers to listen to me. My presidential bid of 2027 is real,” he wrote in another post.
“We have agreed I visit Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, and Garissa after my homecoming this Saturday. ASANTE sana Isili.”

Salasya’s political rise has been anything but conventional. From viral videos and dramatic parliamentary antics to his heavy presence on TikTok and Facebook, the MP has built a personal brand that resonates with Kenya’s youth, particularly those disillusioned with traditional politics.

However, X—widely known as the online playground of Kenya’s sharpest political analysts and critics—remains a tough crowd to win over.

By hiring a digital team, Salasya hopes to change that.

Whether the blogger strategy pays off remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Peter Salasya knows how to keep the public talking.
