A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer has been found dead at his official residence in Nyamira town under circumstances that police have termed suspicious.
The deceased, identified as 56-year-old David Kipkoech Kosgey, was serving as the Head of County Intelligence Coordination in Nyamira County.
According to police reports, Kosgey’s lifeless body was discovered inside his house on Friday, June 5, after concerns were raised when he failed to report for official duties and could not be reached by colleagues.

Kosgey had reportedly been scheduled to travel to Nairobi on official assignment. However, repeated attempts by junior officers to contact him proved unsuccessful, prompting them to visit his residence.
Upon arrival, the officers found the house locked from the inside. With growing concern over his whereabouts, they broke down the door and discovered him unresponsive inside the house.
Nyamira County Commissioner Benson Leparimorijo confirmed the incident, stating that the body was found at around midday after suspicion mounted over the officer’s absence.
Preliminary observations by investigators suggest there may have been signs of a struggle before the officer’s death. Police further noted that blood stains were found at the scene and are believed to have resulted from the deceased vomiting blood.
Despite the disturbing discovery, detectives reported that there were no visible physical injuries on Kosgey’s body, leaving the exact cause of death unclear.
Authorities have since sealed off the residence as a crime scene as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body was moved to the Nyamira Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Investigators have not ruled out any possibilities and are awaiting forensic findings that could shed more light on the case.
By the time of publication, no arrests had been made, and police had not issued any further official statement regarding the circumstances leading to Kosgey’s death.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and government officials, with many awaiting the outcome of investigations into the mysterious death of the senior intelligence officer.
