A family meeting in Shivagala, Kakamega South Sub-County, ended in tragedy after a woman allegedly poured boiling water on her husband, his newly introduced second wife and their 16-month-old child, leaving two victims seriously injured.

According to a police report filed at Malaika Police Station, the incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. at the family’s home in Shivagala village.

The complainant, Danston Isundwa Mmbehi, told police that he was at home with his wife, Mary Mmbone Khalechi, when a woman identified as Fransisca Makhokha arrived carrying a child.

Police reports indicate that Danston introduced Fransisca to Mary as his newly married second wife and informed her that they had a 16-month-old child together.

According to investigators, Mary appeared calm and welcomed the pair into the house before proceeding to the kitchen, where she was reportedly preparing tea.

However, moments later, the situation took a dramatic turn.

Police say Mary allegedly returned carrying a sufuria filled with boiling water and poured its contents on Danston, who was holding the child against his chest at the time.

The attack left both the man and the toddler with severe burn injuries.

The victims were rushed to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment, where the child remains admitted in serious condition. Details regarding the condition of the second wife were not immediately available.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene and has not been located.
